Down Syndrome Support (Cape) strives to provide resources and support for people with Down syndrome (and other intellectual disabilities), their families and their communities

Vision

Individuals with Down syndrome (and other intellectual disabilities) will reach their full potential and impact their families and communities so that everyone will acknowledge their inherent dignity and ability.

Aims and objectives

The organisation is a public, non-profit organisation established for the following aims and objectives:

To create equal opportunities for people with Down syndrome to enable them to function optimally and to achieve their fullest potential in all spheres of life.

To provide equitable, and where possible, accessible services to ensure that people with Down syndrome are integrated into society, enjoy equal opportunities and receive the necessary support and care.

To formulate and implement internal policy and programmes relating to all matters of Down syndrome, incorporating the participation of people with and affected by Down syndrome.

To positively influence provincial and local policy and legislation impacting on the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.

To co-ordinate the work of its different committees and support groups and to provide them with support and guidance.

To develop and implement good governance practices in the Branch

To represent the organisation provincially and locally

To raise funds in order to support and achieve the above aims and objectives.
